Memoirs can be a good resource for learning about the mistakes and successes of others. It's always a good investment to take time and find out about and really understand the audience you want to reach.

Yesss, but I didn't really realize this until recently. I've been mainly into fantasy novels — occasionally sci-fi ones and actionable business books. Exploring this genre is new to me and I'm loving it.

What's a memoir you love (if you've picked one recently or heard a lot of) and would recommend?

I've not read too many memoirs. You have to choose the person carefully. I like mystery novels and true crime or books about history. Assassination Vacation would be an example of that.

I read Shaq Uncut, and really appreciated how much I didn't know about Shaquille O'Neal. Very little of it is about sports. My next book in that genre is Kitchen Confidential. It put Anthony Bourdain on the map outside of the kitchen, and continues to get people talking. Soon I will find out why.

That sounds interesting — let me know how the book turns out. And I'll check out Shaq Uncut (mainly because you said it's little about sports so I'm assuming they're gonna be lots of life lessons in it).

I used to like historical fiction but The Book Thief was so slow and dragged that it made me lose interest in the genre.
